IACH for Patients
Having relevant and accurate information available for patients and families has become a crucial component of state-of-the-art clinical care. Not only does it help the patient and family better understand the disease, but it also helps with decision-making and coping with the diagnosis and burden of symptoms. As health professionals, it is our duty to elicit the information needed by patients and deliver it in a simple way that is easy to understand. This includes information related to the disease itself, treatment of care options, side effects of treatment, nutrition, physical activity, sexuality, psychological concerns, and other important topics. Receiving the right information from trustworthy professionals can lead to better-informed decision-making, lower levels of anxiety, and higher levels of quality of life. This is a founding spirit of the IACH for Patient initiative.
